How to Apply

  • Have a minimum SCU cumulative GPA of 3.00.
  • Submit two one-page written statements.
  • Have completed at least 2 quarters of full-time enrollment (12 units per quarter) at SCU by the application deadline. Only one quarter is required for external transfer students.
  • Submit a Leavey School of Business internal transfer application by the deadline.

Although we would like to admit every student who is interested in the business school, the Leavey School of Business has enrollment limitations and so we must restrict the number of internal transfers.

Please Note:

  • Undergraduate students at any level may apply (First Year, Sophomore, Junior, Senior).
  • Class standing (First Year, Sophomore, etc) is determined by quarters of attendance not by units.
  • No specific coursework is required.
  • Internal transfer students may need additional quarter(s) of study beyond four years to complete their course of study due to later entry into the Leavey School of Business.
  • Students may apply once per year.
  • Some students may be waitlisted up until Week 1 of the upcoming Fall Quarter.
  • Information and decisions regarding the internal transfer process will be communicated via your SCU email.
  • All decisions regarding internal transfers are final for the application cycle.

Frequently Asked Questions

What if my cumulative GPA is below 3.0? Historically, students with a cumulative GPA below 3.0 have not been accepted into the application process, unless there are extremely extenuating circumstances which you can write about on the application. We would encourage students to work hard to increase their GPA and then apply the following year.

How many people apply per year and what is the acceptance rate? We receive 100-120 applications per year and we accept 30-35 students. This would mean the acceptance rate is around 30%.

Do I need to submit a resume or letter of recommendation? Your selection strictly depends on your SCU cumulative GPA and your written statements. If you submit any documents beyond the written statements required, they will be ignored.

Are there any suggestions for the essay on the application?  Make sure to fully answer the prompts and format your essay correctly. Please do not include your name anywhere in your essay, only your student ID. You should talk about personal experiences in your essay and make it specific to you. Provide examples, stories, and thoughts in relation to the prompt. Please do not use Generative AI for your written statements. If you need additional writing support, please visit The HUB Writing Center

If I’m currently pursuing a major in the College of Arts & Sciences and I get admitted into the Leavey School of Business, do I have to drop my College of Arts & Sciences major? No, you do not have to drop your College of Arts & Sciences major; you can pursue a double major in both schools as long as it aligns with the university's academic guidelines.

Is there a set list of classes I should take to better prepare myself as an applicant? No, there is no required list of courses for the Internal Transfer process. We will not look at your transcript, only your SCU cumulative GPA. However, if you would like to meet with an advisor to plan your academic schedule, please contact the Drahmann Center.

What is the easiest business major to be accepted into? We don’t evaluate your application based on the intended major, so the business major you choose doesn’t impact your acceptance probability.

Who should I contact with questions about my application? The Undergraduate Business Programs Office.
