There is a lot going on here at the Silicon Valley Council of Nonprofits! As we continue into the new year, we have been spending quite a bit of energy on pressing issues such as juvenile justice reform and legislation surrounding the legalization of marijuana here in California. These are two political, legal, and social areas that I had not been exposed to before, so it has been a great learning experience getting involved with them. We also just held one of our major annual events, the Health and Housing Summit. It was a success as a place to come together to ask questions and learn from leaders in our community.

Aside from our typical work related to policy and advocacy, I have been working on a very cool project! The Santa Clara County nonprofit sector has not been analyzed (geographically, financially, and composition) for about eight years, so I am driving a large project to put together an updated analysis. Through this process, I have learned a great deal about the nonprofit sector as a whole and how it has changed in recent years. The final report should be done in about a month- I can’t wait to share it with SCU!
