Martina Perez-Verzini: Rooted in Community
As a marketing fellow, my role has been to help strengthen Veggielution's storytelling and community outreach, whether through creating sustainable catering menus that connect local food trucks to farm events or brainstorming new ways to highlight the farmers and small businesses that make San Jose’s local food ecosystem thrive. What surprised me most is how much thought and care goes into every single communication. Marketing here isn't just about promoting an event, it's about honoring the people behind it: the farmers, the volunteers, and the small business owners who depend on this network.
Coming from a marketing and business background, I expected to apply my skills in social media strategy and brand development. But what I've learned is that community centered marketing requires a different lens, one that revolves around empathy, storytelling, and inclusivity. At Veggielution I’m learning to think beyond metrics and impressions and instead think about how a message can strengthen belonging or give a voice to the community we serve. Ultimately, I hope to use this experience and my role at Veggielution to help share the voices and stories of the people who make the farm thrive. Through their experiences, I’ve learned that real change begins with listening to and uplifting the community around us.
