Rheanna Ganapathy : Silicon Valley Council of Nonprofits
I wasn't sure exactly what to expect on my first day as the Marketing and Communications intern for Silicon Valley Council of Nonprofits, but I soon learned that every day coming into work would be a day filled with learning and new experiences that I had never imagined. As the marketing intern, my main job is to focus on utilizing social media outlets to market and promote the organization, our members, and our events. It's been about seven weeks working at SVCN, and I've already learned so much about what it takes to create a marketing and social media campaign for big events.
However, working at SVCN has given me so much more than just direct marketing experience. I have learned so much about nonprofit work and how one can really apply the skills they've learned at school in the real world, and in a way that gives back to the community. One of my favorite things about working at SVCN is to get a feel for the ways in which such intelligent and educated individuals are using their talents to help better the community. I love that we are such a small office and staff, because it really allows me to see the way this organization is held together and how different jobs and departments work together to create success and benefit others.
There are also two other interns working at SVCN who focus on public policy. Even though we have different jobs, it is great to be able to communicate and share our experiences with each other. Even within the interns, there is a great amount of collaboration, which has given me so many more experiences and valuable information that I would have ever expected, working at SVCN.
It's only been under two months and I have already learned so much here. Next month, we have the first big event that I will be a part of and I can't wait to see how that goes! Spring quarter will definitely bring about so many new and exciting experiences - only now I'll be expecting to learn things I never thought I would.
