I work at Cristo Rey San Jose High School (CRSJ). CRSJ is a Jesuit high school with the mission to empower students from underserved communities to be men and women of tomorrow. Every Cristo Rey student takes 4 years of college preparatory coursework and goes to work one day out of the week. Through work, students get to learn valuable skills, explore career opportunities, and increase self-esteem.

I am a part of the work study team and I help out in whatever ways I can. I just finished auditing all student files and work documents. I am in the process of planning the work study team meet up and piloting family work day visits. On the side, I assist with safety trainings, debrief student’s work performance evaluations, update bulletin boards, input grades, and review summer program applications. Occasionally, I get out of the office when I go pick up students from work. In general, I am just an additional resource for the students and I try my best to help the work study program at CRSJ.

I look forward to work because I’m surrounded by passionate and hardworking individuals. The work study team knows all the students by heart and cares about every student’s well being. The work study team starts early in the morning and stays late at work, and try their best to build a support system for the students. My supervisor Sarah also cares about my interests. She introduced me to all the projects within the work study program and projects from other departments. In the future, I wish to work in the education and nonprofit sector so I am extremely grateful for all the exposures and the opportunity to work at CRSJ!
