What are you doing this summer? This summer, I worked at KPMG as Risk Advisory Intern in NYC. I worked in Forensics across privacy compliance testing, transaction testing, and financial due diligence.
Hopefully you’ve grown both professionally and personally from this summer experience. Name one or two “life” lessons you learned and will carry forward after graduation. I learned the importance of being proactive and having a strong work ethic. I also learned how valuable it is to build relationships and the importance of talking to people outside your department. When you combine those two, you can create a work environment you truly enjoy.
What has been the most memorable part of your experience? The most memorable part of my summer was my weekly meetings with my mentor. It was really comforting to have someone I could go to for advice and feedback from my managers. It was a full circle moment when at the end of my internship, he could see my progress and how far I had come since the beginning of summer.
What advice would you give to younger students who are searching for summer opportunities? Be proactive and don’t be afraid to put yourself out there. Apply even when you don’t meet every qualification, build relationships with people in the industries you’re interested in, and once you get an opportunity, make the most of it by asking questions, taking initiative, and finding ways to make yourself valuable to your team.
