What are you doing this summer? This summer, I studied federal and state tax codes to prepare partnership and corporation tax returns. I also researched tax regulations related to blockchain to support managers with tax planning and gain exposure to emerging areas of taxation.
Hopefully you’ve grown both professionally and personally from this summer experience. Name one or two “life” lessons you learned and will carry forward after graduation. I learned that there are many different paths within a career and that I can continue exploring as my interests evolve. In tax, for example, there are various service lines and areas of specialization, and the skills you develop in one area can transfer to a new industry or role.
What has been the most memorable part of your experience? The most memorable part of my summer was the team building, whether that meant grabbing lunch with my team or having a coffee chat with people outside of my team. I really enjoyed getting to know my peers beyond our day-to-day work and building connections with people across the firm.
What advice would you give to younger students who are searching for summer opportunities? Apply for every summer opportunity that you are even remotely interested in, even if you don't think it's the perfect fit. Every professional experience gives you an opportunity to learn, build skills, and better understand what you want from your career.
