Double major in Classics and Philosophy

"I’m a Philosophy/Classics double major from Encinitas, California, and I first encountered Classics through SCU’s language requirement. While I was taking my three quarters of elementary-level Latin as a sophomore, I realized that, of the material I found most interesting in my philosophy classes, at least half of it was originally written in Latin. I initially pursued a minor in classics, but that minor quickly became a major in my junior year. I think a strong personal interest in the material covered in many of the courses offered in Classics and the very approachable students and faculty are what primarily kept me engaged with the department. An especially memorable class for me was a Latin course on Cicero’s Catalinarian speeches, which nearly completely reversed the feelings I had about the Roman Republic’s demise going in. For my future plans after SCU, I’m currently applying to Master's programs in Philosophy. "
