Ana Maria Pineda, RSM Lecture - Rutilio Grande, SJ

An Ordinary Man, an Extraordinary Life

Ana Maria Pineda, RSM has had a busy year with her work on Rutilio Grande, SJ—travel to El Salvador, talks at various colleges, and interviews with America magazine.  We were fortunate enough to have her speak at SCU in one of our two department book events for the quarter.  Despite Covid fears about indoor events, we had over 50 faculty, students and community members attend her talk “Rutilio Grande SJ: An Ordinary Man, and Extraordinary Life.” Drawing on her research into his writings, the history of his relationship with Romero, and a network of family members related to Grande, Ana Maria brought to life the “ordinary yet extraordinary” story of this important figure in the Catholic Church in El Salvador.  Ana Maria’s book on Grande, Rutilio Grande: Memory and Legacy of a Jesuit Martyr, was released by Lectio Publications in January of this year.
