Building Power Workshop

Interactive Interfaith Workshop provides ideas for future organizing related offerings

On April 29, the RS Department co-sponsored an interactive workshop on Building Power through Relational Organizing with the Ignatian Center and SCCAP. The workshop was co-led by three professional interfaith organizers associated with Silicon Valley Allied for the Common Good (SVACG), and offered an introduction to community organizing as an approach to social change grounded in SCU's Jesuit values. It provided participants with focused skills training on one of its core practices: the one-to-one relational meeting. The workshop brought together an unusually broad group of nearly 50 students, faculty, and staff leaders from across SCU's schools and departments, and generated a great response, seeding the ground for more organizing-related offerings to come in the following academic year. Department faculty Chris Tirres, Jaime Wright, and Nicholas Hayes-Mota were on the planning team and all played roles at the event.
