In March, the Religious Studies Department lost two faculty members, both of whom played influential roles in the department, across the University, and in the wider worlds of Catholic theology and Religious Studies.

In March, the Religious Studies Department lost two faculty members, both of whom played influential roles in the department, across the University, and in the wider worlds of Catholic theology and Religious Studies.

Both Denise Carmody and Teresia Hinga made substantial contributions in their fields as well as being generous human beings, kind and wise mentors, and supportive colleagues. We miss them dearly.

Please join us in remembering the families of Denise Carmody and Teresia Hinga and in gratitude for their exemplary lives of teaching, scholarship, and service.

 

Denise Lardner Carmody
December 10, 1935 - March 15, 2023

Denise Carmody was a pioneer in female leadership at Santa Clara University, where she served in various capacities for nearly 30 years.

Teresia Mbari Hinga
January 25, 1955 - March 31, 2023

Teresia Hinga was a dedicated professor of religion and a welcoming friend, mentor, and colleague who taught at Santa Clara University for nearly 20 years.
