In Spring 2023, the department hosted two informative career exploration/development and networking events with SCU sociology major alums who shared their professional experiences and advice to current SCU students about post-graduation life.

In mid-April, majors and minors gathered together with the students of Dr. Chiaraluce’s course to hear about the innovative and interesting careers pursued by six alumni of the Sociology Department. Thank you to Diego Ardila '22, Mariana Barba '09, Andre Carbajal '22, Maryam Khatoon '22, Kathryn Luna '15, and Maddie Perna '21. With positions including an immigration lawyer, project coordinator, user experience researcher, and brand marketer, these alumni provided insights and advice to current SCU students about how to leverage their skills learned in Sociology in the current job market.

In May, JJ Burwell, Manager, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Projects and Operations at Motorola Solutions, and Annalicia Anaya, Community Lead at Teamshares were guest speakers in Dr. Chiaraluce’s Internship course. They shared their in-depth professional experiences at multiple workplaces, the value of sociological training and transferable skills, and pragmatic and important advice for post-graduate preparation.
