Brazil-US Colloquium on Communication Studies

Department sponsors international colloquium bringing together scholars from three continents.

The SCU Department of Sociology sponsored the 9th Brazil-US Colloquium on Communication Studies held on August 4, 2021. The event was organized by Professor Sonia Virginia Moreira (Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro/Rio de Janeiro State University) and SCU Associate Professor of Sociology Laura Robinson. Begun in 2004, the Colloquium is an international academic meeting under the auspices of the prestigious Brazilian national scholarly organization devoted to interdisciplinary studies of communication: Intercom (Colóquio Brasil-Estados Unidos de Estudos da Comunicação, A Sociedade Brasileira de Estudos Interdisciplinares da Comunicação (Intercom). This bilingual event brought together scholars from three continents to discuss media, culture, and society in Brazil, the United States, and Latin America. Celebrating media and communication scholarship across the Americas, the event is part of a growing scholarly venture publishing regular volumes with Emerald Studies in Media and Communications. The Colloquium was free and open to the virtual public thanks to the SCU Department of Sociology’s sponsorship. The event program may be found here: http://brazilusacolloquium.com. A big thank you to our students who served as Assistant Committee Members: Barbara Baptista and JD Worcester!
