Sociology senior receives Peter-Hans Kolvenbach, S.J., Award

Yesenia Magdaleno graduated in 2020 with Sociology and Spanish Studies majors. She received the Peter-Hans Kolvenbach, S.J., University Award. This award is given to a graduating senior who exemplifies the ideals of Jesuit education, especially being a “whole person of solidarity in the real world” and who has the courage and faith to build a more just and humane world.

Asked what she had to say about the award, Yesenia responded, “I am so thankful to all the professors from the Sociology department who expanded my perspective from beyond my own "little world" and who exemplified what being a "person for others" really means. I know this university award is not from my own work, but the examples I tried to imitate from the many people I admire and who I met through my Sociology courses, in particular those with community-based learning placements and collaborative experiences with community members. Thank you all so much for the inspiration!”
