abrewster@scu.edu

Andrea has a Ph.D. in Education from UCLA. Prior to her role as Associate Director of Educational Assessment, she served as Assessment Manager and Curriculum Manager of ELSJ Core in Undergraduate Studies. She is a WASC Assessment Leadership Academy graduate (2015).

Some of her recent accomplishments include supporting the LEAD Scholars Program in developing regular assessments to measure the impacts of new interventions and helping Drahmann Advising and Learning Resources Center to initiate a self-study for setting programmatic goals. Andrea has also worked closely with the Community-based Learning (CBL) team in the Ignatian Center to assess students’ learning in the community-based learning component of their ELSJ Core courses and guide program improvement.

Andrea along with Director of Community-based Learning Jennifer Merritt and the CBL team partnered in assessments of the impacts of last year’s online modality on students’ learning experience in their community placements last year. They also used the data to innovate, forming a stronger, more supportive learning community of ELSJ faculty and generating course materials and techniques that can be used going forward. This work was presented at AAC&U in 2021.

In addition to teaching ELSJ Core courses since 2011, Andrea has recently published several articles with SCU co-authors related to social justice-related learning in undergraduate education, including: Brewster, A., Branch, N., & Nutefall, J. (2021). Critical information literacy and critical service learning: Potential partners in students’ social justice learning? Michigan Journal of Community Service Learning, 27(1), 93-128. https://doi.org/10.3998/mjcsloa.3239521.0027.105
