Abstract

This paper examines the strategic potential for the United States to position itself as a global agricultural leader by 2050 in response to projected food scarcity in densely populated regions. With global population expected to reach 9.7 billion by 2050, particularly concentrated in Asia and Africa, food security concerns are intensifying. The analysis argues that the United States should refocus its economic priorities toward agriculture and aquaculture, leveraging its comparative advantages including fertile land, advanced technology, technological innovation in biotechnology, and access to freshwater resources from North America. While the U.S. agricultural sector has declined relative to manufacturing since World War II, emerging global food demands present an opportunity for strategic reorientation. This paper proposes increased government investment in sustainable agriculture, aquaculture systems, biotechnology-enhanced crops, and biofuel production as pathways to economic growth and global food security leadership.
