Alex Field : Bay Area Mortgage Rates : The Mercury News

Professor Alexander Field shared his predictions on the future of mortgage rates in the Bay Area on a piece with The Mercury News.

Alexander Field, Michel and Mary Orradre Professor of Economics, recently shared his thoughts on the future of the Bay Area housing market in a piece for The Mercury News. While some believe that low mortgage rates will drive prospective homeowners to buy, others, including Professor Field, are wary to make such assertions.

An excerpt from the piece:
One economist said it’s impossible to predict the psychology of buyers and sellers in this new environment: “It could be that people who are locked in to low mortgage rates are going to be reluctant to sell,” said Alexander Field, professor of economics at Santa Clara University’s Leavey School of Business. “Because they’ll lose the benefits of those low rates” when it’s time to go looking for a new house.
