Haibing Lu : Recipient of the Markkula Center’s Hackworth Grant
Haibing Lu, Assistant Professor of OMIS, was recently named a recipient of the Markkula Center for Applied Ethics’ fall 2016 round of Hackworth Grants. This grant is given out to faculty and staff of the university who seek support for their research into applied ethics.
The grant will support Professor Lu’s project entitled "Internet Ethics: A Machine Learning Solution to Fake News on Social Media." The project intends to detect and combat misinformation on social media by investigating machine learning/natural language processing techniques, with an attempt to develop an effective mechanism to filter out/degrade untrustworthy information and thereby to restore trust and harmony in online communities.
