SCU's Fernanda Gaete and Yash Tanna featured in the annual list of 100 Best & Brightest Undergraduate Business Majors in the Nation.

SANTA CLARA, Calif. (April 4, 2022)

Two of the Leavey School of Business’ top students have been selected as a part of the Best & Brightest Business Majors list from Poets&Quants. The 7th annual list features seniors from the Top 50 Undergraduate Business Schools who embody the best in business education. This year, Fernanda Gaete and Yash Tanna were chosen to represent Santa Clara University based on academic performance, extracurricular leadership, and innate potential.

Fernanda Gaete

Fernanda Gaete ‘22 is a Finance Major from Portland, Oregon. During her time at the Leavey School of Business, Fernanda has served as the Co-President of SCU’s Undergraduate Women in Business Association, Co-President of the SCU Own It Summit, ACE Leadership Program scholar, LSB Peer Advisor, and Business Leadership Peer Educator, amongst several other positions and student organizations across campus. After interning in the Finance Development Program in Cupertino last summer, Fernanda will be returning to Apple as a full-time Finance Associate in the Finance Development Program following graduation.

In reflecting on her time at LSB, Fernanda shared about the experiences she had through LSB’s Conscientious Capitalism course, the relationships she built through her leadership position in the Women in Business Association, and how her outlook on business has evolved through the years.

“Prior to entering the study of business, I thought my focus would be completely on the external world around me,” Fernanda said. “What I came to learn is the importance of understanding the authentic self, which opens doors that lead to opportunities to pursue a career that aligns with my own personal values and goals as a Jesuit educated individual.”

Yash Tanna

Yash Tanna ‘22 is an Economics Major, MIS Minor from San Jose, CA. Over his four years at SCU, Yash has held many esteemed internships across the Bay Area, including as Financial Analyst Intern with Lockheed Martin Space Systems, Algorithm and Product Marketing Intern at Opal, and Transformation Intern with Veritas Technologies. Following graduation, Yash will be joining Deloitte Consulting as a Strategy Analyst and ultimately hopes to land at a top MBA program before transitioning to a social impact startup. On-campus, Yash serves as Vice President for Community Development within the Associated Student Government and is an active member of the Alpha Kappa Psi Business Fraternity, Neighborhood Prosperity Initiative, ACE Leadership Program, as well as the Beta Gamma Sigma Honor Society, and the Alpha Sigma Nu Honor Society.

When it comes to lessons learned during his time at LSB, Yash shared that the largest impacts have come through his relationships with his peers, the importance of networking, and getting to learn and work alongside transformative Silicon Valley executives.

“Business has taught me about the responsibility I have in ensuring my education provides a positive impact in the lives of friends, family, and community,” said Yash Tanna. “At Leavey, classes such as Business Ethics and Sustainability Management gave me a perspective of the potential business has to improve the lives of employees and the community while also reversing harm such as environmental destruction. Additionally, in my Experiential Learning for Social Justice class, I worked with small minority-owned businesses, which continued to reinforce the idea that my education can be a tool that I use to help my local community flourish.”
