What aspect of your fellowship has been most rewarding?
Before this fellowship, I associated giving back almost entirely with formal, large scale volunteering. However, my experience completely shifted that perspective, teaching me that civic engagement includes indirect, behind the scenes work like using analytical and technical skills to improve the systems that affect people's everyday lives. I've realized that sometimes simply taking the time to listen and make a confusing process easier is a meaningful act of citizenship. Moving forward, I want to bridge my professional and personal goals by focusing on mentorship, helping students navigate their education, and utilizing my technical background to make information and resources more accessible. This fellowship has shown me that consistency outweighs grandeur; by routinely contributing our unique skills, we can dismantle community isolation and steadily build a foundation of shared trust.
