Artist's Statement
In my work, I combine watercolor painting with a focus on light in the surrounding environment to give significance to the fleeting, often overlooked moments in our everyday.
My artistic practice is deeply influenced by Chinese aesthetics, blending personal emotions with modern narratives. I focus on the visual representation of Wuxia and Xianxia fantasy worlds, genres rooted in Chinese literature and mythology. Wuxia centers on martial artists who follow a chivalric code in worlds of intrigue and adventure, while Xianxia expands these realms through Daoist philosophy, supernatural elements, and the pursuit of immortality. Together, they embody the spiritual essence of Chinese culture and offer boundless space for imagination and storytelling.
I primarily create narrative-driven digital illustrations, depicting characters, environments, and scenes inspired by these fantastical worlds. My work often features swordsmen, immortals, and mythical landscapes that evoke a sense of mystery, freedom, and romanticism. I use digital painting as my main medium, which allows me to experiment with lighting, colors, brushwork, and textures. Through light and shadow, delicate gradients, negative space, and the interplay of sharp and blurred elements, I aim to enhance depth and atmosphere, creating immersive compositions that breathe with openness and imagination.
Thematically, my illustrations explore the fusion of fantasy and reality, focusing on identity, emotional resonance, and cultural symbolism. My goal is to revitalize Chinese cultural elements in contemporary visual media, ensuring they feel both authentic and innovative—not defined by outsiders, but shaped by Chinese creators themselves.
Looking ahead, I am committed to expanding this practice further within games, animation, and interactive media, continuing to explore how Chinese aesthetics can evolve and find new expressions in modern storytelling and visual development.
