SEVP Portal

Reminder: SEVP Portal Use Is Not Recommended

Do not update information in the SEVP Portal directly as this can cause errors in your SEVIS record.

While on OPT and STEM OPT you are required to:

In March 2018 the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) launched the SEVP Portal tool.

The SEVP Portal is an optional tool that allows F-1 students engaged in post-completion OPT and STEM OPT Extension to view specific parts of their SEVIS record. ISS does not recommend or support the use of the SEVP Portal tool. Students who choose to sign-up for the optional SEVP Portal login, are still required to report changes to address, email and phone number via eCampus and changes to employment via the SCU OPT Reporting Portal and should never update the SEVP Portal directly.

Once your OPT EAD card becomes valid you should receive an email from SEVP providing instructions on creating a portal account. The email will come from do-not-reply.sevp@ice.dhs.gov. If you do not see the email, check your spam or junk mail folder. If you still do not see the email, please review our FAQs below.

SEVP Portal FAQs

If you have any questions about the portal or need assistance, please review the FAQs that we have created to assist you. If you still have questions after reviewing this page, you can email ISS@scu.edu

You are not required to create a SEVP Portal login.

You are not required to use the SEVP Portal.

You are required to continue to update eCampus with all changes to your personal contact information.

You are required to continue to update the SCU OPT Reporting Portal with all changes to your OPT and STEM OPT employment.

SEVP has created an SEVP Portal Help website that contains:

The SEVP Portal will allow you to:

  • View details about your post-completion OPT or STEM OPT extension.
  • View details about your address, telephone and employer information.
  • View details about your OPT / STEM OPT extension employers.

SCU students should never update or edit infomration in the SEVP Portal.

Update eCampus or the SCU OPT Reporting Portal with all changes. If you notice errors or have questions email iss@scu.edu.

Students cannot see whether their H-1B was selected in the lottery using the SEVP Portal.

For students that have an H-1B Change of Status application that was selected in the lottery and active OPT or STEM OPT that originally expires before 10/01 the OPT / STEM OPT end date in SEVIS may be updated to show the automatic "Cap Gap" once the H-1B gets added to the SEVIS record.

For all other students, no changes will be visible in the SEVP Portal, even if the H-1B was selected in the lottery.

You should expect the email on the date that your approved OPT EAD card becomes valid.

Check your EAD card and make sure that it is currently valid. You will only get an invitation to join the SEVP Portal once your EAD card validity period has begun, so if your EAD card’s validity is in the future, you will have a wait a bit longer to get your SEVP Portal invitation email.

If your EAD card is currently valid and you still haven’t gotten your email

Do not ever edit / update information in the SEVP Portal directly.

In addition to SEVIS, the ISS Team maintains a relational database called ISSM that allows our team to maintain and manage thousands of international student and scholar records. The majority of international students and scholars are not eligible to use the SEVP Portal and we rely on the data in ISSM to be accurate for both government reporting and advising.

Students who try to edit or update the SEVP Portal directly often make errors or mistakes that are then pushed into SEVIS. We're the experts -- let us update SEVIS for you!

Remember, you are required to update eCampus and the SCU OPT Reporting Portal with any changes to contact information and employment.
