Working Remotely - Flexible Work Schedule

Resources

We know everyone is adjusting to temporarily working from home. Santa Clara University's Information Services' Technology for Working Remotely page is the best place to find self-paced resources for many of the University's critical applications and services. You will also find tips & tricks on DUO, G Suite, security, internet speed and more.

Temporary Staff Options - COVID Related High Risk

We continue to work and collaborate with our COVID-19 health experts, Campus Operations group, University Governance groups, and the University’s administration to monitor the situation and explore options to protect the health and safety of our faculty, staff, and students. To that end, we developed temporary work options that will be available for the fall quarter to eligible staff employees.

The temporary work options are available for benefits-eligible staff who have successfully completed their introductory period. The staff options will be considered on one of the two basis:

  • Documented underlying medical condition associated with high risk to the staff member for severe COVID-19
  • Documented underlying medical condition associated with high risk to a member of one’s immediate household for severe COVID-19

Temporary accommodation options:

Staff employees should use this form to submit a request and must consult with their supervisor and HR prior to submitting a request.

  • Remote work accommodations may be provided to staff employees who can effectively perform, as determined by their supervisor and based on business needs, all job duties and responsibilities remotely.
  • Staff employees who are not able to perform effectively, as determined by their supervisor and based on business needs, any of their job duties and responsibilities remotely can request one of the following leave options, as applicable:
    • Short term disability, if applicable (payment through disability insurance and integrated leave accruals)
    • Covid-19  related leave of absence (employee may use accrued and unused vacation and sick leave hours, in that order)
  • Staff employees who are able to perform effectively, as determined by their supervisor and based on business needs, a portion equivalent to 50% or more of their job duties and responsibilities remotely:
    • Temporary FTE reduction – FTE and related compensation will be reduced to reflect percent of work done remotely
    • Partial Covid-19 leave – employee receives regular pay for the portion of work done remotely and payment from leave accruals for the partial leave portion (employees may use accrued and unused vacation and sick leave hours, in that order, for the leave portion)

Requesting a Temporary Work Option:

Staff employees wishing to request a temporary work option must consult with their supervisor and HR first. After consulting with the supervisor and HR, the staff employee can submit the request using this form.

Staff employees in need of a long-term term arrangement as part of or related to a reasonable accommodation request (ADA) should contact HR.
