Work Study

Work-Study Eligibility

Work-Study is a form of financial aid that provides part-time, on- or off-campus job opportunities for students with financial need. If you’re awarded Work-Study through the FAFSA process, a portion of your earning will be covered by the federal government funds, based on the applicable funding split for your student job.

How to check your eligibility:

• If you qualify, your financial aid offer (available in mid-July via MySCU or My Finances) will show a Federal Work-Study (FWS) award.

• If you didn’t get a Work-Study offer as part of your financial aid package and you believe you may qualify, you can request a review of your financial aid package by contacting the One Stop Office at onestop@scu.edu. Please be sure to include "Federal Work Study" in the email subject line.

Once hired into a Work-Study position:

• Your earnings are split between your department and the Work-Study program
• You’re responsible for tracking your total earnings to avoid exceeding your allotment
• Work-Study students may work up to 19 hours per week during the academic term
• You may apply for an increase in your Work-Study allotment by sending a request to the One Stop Office at onestop@scu.edu. Please be sure to include "Federal Work Study" in the email subject line.
• If your allotment runs out and is not increased, the hiring department can choose to keep you employed, but will then cover 100% of your wages

• Off-Campus Work-Study:
  In some cases, SCU partners with approved Bay Area organizations so students can use their Work-Study funds off-campus. The same policies apply, including timesheet completion and SCU HR compliance. Contact studentemployment@scu.edu for more details.
