Yongtae Kim is the Robert and Barbara McCullough Professor of Accounting in the Leavey School of Business (LSB) at Santa Clara University. He is also serving as the Associate Dean of the LSB.

Dr. Kim's research interests are mainly in the areas of managerial opportunism, voluntary disclosure, and capital markets. His research has been published in leading accounting and finance journals including The Accounting Review, Journal of Accounting and Economics, Journal of Accounting Research, Review of Accounting Studies, Contemporary Accounting Research, Journal of Financial Economics, and Management Science. Dr. Kim served as the Editor of the Journal of Accounting and Public Policy, a leading scholarly journal in the area of accounting and public policy, between 2019 and 2021. He is teaching courses in both financial and managerial accounting at both the graduate and undergraduate levels.

Dr. Kim received the University Award for Sustained Excellence in Scholarship, the University’s highest award for scholarly achievement, in 2018. This award recognizes the outstanding achievements and dedication of a faculty member who has demonstrated sustained excellence in scholarly or creative work. He is also a recipient of the University Award for Recent Achievement in Scholarship in 2014. This award recognizes scholarly or creative work over the previous five years by a faculty member that represents a major contribution to a field of knowledge or to the arts.

Dr. Kim joined the faculty in 2001 after receiving his doctorate from the State University of New York at Buffalo. Born in Korea, Dr. Kim received his B.A. in Business and M.A. in Business both from Sogang University in Korea. He obtained his CPA in Korea and worked for KPMG Korea for two and a half years.
