The students developed a proof-of-concept Bluetooth Low Energy powered Navigational Aid, which can provide navigational prompts to individuals with cognitive or visual disability. The app could enable users to navigate to and from various locations on campus independently, by giving precise location and destination-aware prompts. The app utilizes a smartphone’s Bluetooth low energy (BLE) radio to determine precise proximity information, and then delivers auditory, visual and tactile cues via text-to-speech, imagery, and vibration.
