The estimated cost of attendance (COA) includes average amounts for standard educational expenses incurred by students during the academic year. These costs may include tuition, fees, housing, food, books, supplies, transportation, and other education-related expenses.
Students who experience additional educational expenses beyond the standard budget may request a review for a cost of attendance adjustment. Requests must be submitted in writing to the Financial Aid Office and may require supporting documentation.
Examples of allowable adjustments may include:
- Additional course- or program-related expenses
- Child-care expenses
- Disability-related expenses during the academic year
- Required professional licensure or certification costs related to the student's academic program
- One-time computer purchase or other required educational technology expense
If a cost of attendance increase is approved, students may be eligible to apply for additional loan funding depending on their remaining eligibility under federal or private loan programs.
Beginning July 1, 2026, federal borrowing limits established under the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA) may impact the availability of additional federal loan funding for graduate students. Please review additional details available on the Federal Student Aid site: One Big Beautiful Bill Act Updates.
Note: All cost of attendance adjustment requests are reviewed on a case-by-case basis through the Financial Aid Office’s professional judgment authority and are subject to federal regulations and institutional policy.
