On-Campus Living at the Jesuit School of Theology of Santa Clara University

Welcome to JST-SCU Housing! We look forward to providing you with top notch housing during your time with us. You will find an engaging, dynamic, and supportive experience in our housing, located in the vibrant City of Berkeley, California within walking distance of the JST-SCU. You will live and learn among an international community of students. A community that is rooted in the Catholic and Iganitan traditions, which will enhance your scholarly and ministerial formation, fosters life-long friendships and supports your success as a student.

For details on housing options, please see below:

JST-SCU operates three apartment style Residence Hall buildings, offering studios, one bedrooms and rooms in two bedroom accommodations.

JST-SCU offers lay students the opportunity to live in a lay intentional community during their academic studies. The Jean Donovan Community (JDC) provides lay students a distinct experience to connect and learn with other lay students in which students commit to formation through companionship, mutual support, prayer and shared communal life.

If you wish to apply for this opportunity, please email Jenny Girard Malley, Assistant Dean of Student and Community Life, at jgirardmalley@scu.edu or call (510) 549-5018. Jenny will send along to you the application and provide details regarding the entire selection process.

Jesuits may make housing arrangements through the Jesuit Community at JST-SCU by contacting the rector, Rev. Thomas Smolich, S.J., regarding housing. Tom Smolich may be reached at jstrector@scu.edu or (510) 225-6199.

JST-SCU Housing is happy to offer housing to all students enrolled in the Graduate Theological Union (GTU) and GTU affiliated students. To apply for JST-SCU Housing, please complete the GTU JST-SCU Housing Application.

Other GTU schools may have availability in their residence halls and apartments. On the GTU Housing webpage, you can find the housing contact person for each of the member schools as well as a neighborhood guide and suggestions for finding local housing.

The Office of Accessible Education has been designated by the Jesuit School of Theology of Santa Clara University to ensure access for all students with disabilities to all academic programs and Jesuit School of Theology of Santa Clara University resources, which include on-campus housing accommodations. Types of disabilities include medical, physical, psychological, attention-deficit, and learning disabilities.

Reasonable accommodations are provided to minimize the effects of a disability on your ability to maximize the potential for success. If you feel you need a specific housing accommodation you must register with the office of accessible education and submit appropriate documentation from a qualified professional (e.g., a psychiatrist, psychologist, or physician). Once the appropriate documentation has been submitted, the Office of Accessible Education will inform the JST-SCU Housing Office of the appropriate housing accommodation to offer you.

The Jesuit School of Theology of Santa Clara University does not provide assessment for documenting most disabilities. The Office of Accessible Education can provide referrals to qualified professionals for some disabilities.
