Faculty Development and the Center for Teaching Excellence work collaboratively to support the professional and educational development of faculty and instructional staff at all career stages and appointment types.
Faculty Development administers programming and resources related to faculty life-cycles, mentoring, leadership development, work-life balance, and community-building. The Center for Teaching Excellence provides individual and group opportunities that promote effective, evidence-based instructional practices among all educators, including faculty, instructional staff, and graduate students.

Associate Provost for Faculty Development
Associate Provost for Faculty Development since Fall 2024, Dr. Lueck is an Associate Professor of English. Her teaching builds on her research work by incorporating opportunities for exciting archival research on both historical and contemporary topics of interest to students, including women's education and Indigenous history.

Director, Center for Teaching Excellence
Inaugural Director of the Center for Teaching Excellence since December 2025, Dr. Riley Caldwell-O'Keefe leads faculty-driven initiatives to expand pedagogical support across Santa Clara University. They earned their doctorate in theatre studies at UC Santa Barbara and bring over twenty years of college teaching experience to inform their approach to equity-minded, evidence-based course and curricular design.

Faculty Development Program Manager
Dr Caitlin Flynn joined Faculty Development in Spring 2025. As Program Manager, Caitlin works to support faculty across all disciplines and career stages by creating and coordinating events, programs, and resources aimed at enriching pedagogy, building community, and facilitating a culture of curiosity and free academic inquiry. She is committed to cultivating an environment that advances solidarity and action in accordance with SCU's Jesuit values.

Faculty Development Administrative Associate
Gaby Tiu began her role in Winter 2026. She fulfills administrative duties for the departments of Office of Faculty Development, the Center for Teaching Excellence, and Office of Educational Assessment. An alumni of Santa Clara University, she aims to facilitate smooth, engaging, and valuable events that enhance the experiences of members of the Bronco community.
Faculty Associates are faculty leaders recognized for their commitment to collaboration, teaching excellence, and the professional development of themselves and their colleagues. They are invited to serve three-year terms with Faculty Development and the Center for Teaching Excellence to help design and facilitate programming, provide mentoring to new faculty at SCU, and grow their own skills as professional and educational developers. As part of their role, they are also available to support faculty directly through individual mentorship and formative classroom observations. Faculty Associates are selected in recognition of their established reputation as a trusted resource to colleagues within their departments or programs and as an already active contributor to their community. Our aim is to build a team of Associates that is broadly representative of School/College affiliation, discipline and appointment type.

Faculty Ambassadors work with Faculty Development and the Center for Teaching Excellence on project-specific goals for the academic year, such as leading a faculty cohort group or overseeing special programs. Ordinarily, these faculty have previously served in the role of Faculty Associate, or may be working towards that role for the future. As part of their role, they are available to support faculty directly through individual mentorship and formative classroom observations.
