Scholarships and Awards

This fellowship will be awarded to a CESE student who shows significant promise as a successful civil engineer, as determined by the faculty, and who demonstrates financial need and commitment to the values of the School of Engineering and Santa Clara University. The scholarship will be administered through the Department of Civil, Environmental and Sustainable Engineering.

This fellowship was created in honor of Dr. Mark Aschheim: Civil, Environmental and Sustainable Engineering professor from 2003-2019, Department Chair from 2009-2017, upon his passing on June 16, 2019, after a 2-year battle with cancer. This award was established in remembrance of Mark's many contributions to SCU, the School of Engineering and the Civil, Environmental and Sustainable Engineering Department, and to the field of civil engineering.

Recipients must be a rising Senior majoring in Civil, Environmental and Sustainable Engineering. Technical competence must be evident, including a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.4, with higher preference given for academic performance in Civil Engineering classes covering mechanics, structural materials, and earthquake engineering. Recipients of the award shall be determined by the faculty of the Department.

This award is given to a junior declared in Civil, Environmental and Sustainable Engineering showing the most promise for a successful career as a civil engineer, as determined by the faculty with preference based on merit.

Established in 1989, this award is given to a sophomore or junior declared Civil, Environmental and Sustainable Engineering student that has demonstrated a high level of "hands-on" technical knowledge and has exhibited persistence and fortitude when faced with personal and academic challenges. One civil engineering major is selected by the department chair annually.

Established in 1977 in memory of Patrick W. Regan of the class of 1947, this award is given to outstanding juniors in the Civil, Environmental and Sustainable Engineering Department as determined by the faculty in the department based on academic record, extracurricular activities, and service to the Department/University.

Established in 1981 by Mrs. Edmund C. Flynn in memory of her husband, these awards are given to the two junior civil engineering students with the highest scholastic average as determined by the faculty.

This award is given to the civil engineering student (or students) giving the best presentation at the annual Senior Design Conference as determined by the judges’ scoring with input from the faculty.

Established in 1981 by Mrs. Edmund C. Flynn in memory of her husband, these awards are given to the graduating civil engineering student(s) completing the best thesis (capstone project) as determined by the faculty.

 

Awarded to a senior by the faculty of Civil, Environmental and Sustainable Engineering Department based on excellent academic standing, contribution to the department and school, and quality senior design project.

Awarded to Engineering student with an interest in heavy construction industry.

 

Scholarship to help support a senior undergraduate Civil Engineering student specializing in Structural Engineering.

Established in 2020 by Mr. Gary Filizetti of Devcon Construction Co., this award provides financial support to selected student who will improve the diversity characteristics of the SCU Construction Management (CM) Program. This award will foster strong spirit of inclusive excellence among the student population as measured by gender, economic, ethnic, and academic affiliations. Preference will be given to women, minority students, and first generation students enrolled or to be enrolled in the CM Program. Otherwise, the award can be given to any academically eligible CM students. Recipients must exhibit good academic standing (min 2.5 GPA). The recipient are expected to serve the CM Program for one year to help with its marketing effort on- and off-campus.

Awarded to a junior student interested in the possibility of pursuing a career in consulting engineering or land surveying.  Students must have a minimum grade point average of 3.2 in completed engineering and land surveying courses, and a minimum overall grade point average of 3.0 on a scale of 4.0.
