Louis I. Bannan, S.J.
The Louis I. Bannan, S.J. award pays tribute to the heart and spirit of one of Santa Clara's most dedicated supporters. This award recognizes an alumnus/a or an alumni couple for their distinguished and outstanding service to the Alumni Association and Santa Clara University.
Successful nominations will feature the nominees' contributions to the Alumni Association and SCU. Some examples include board of directors service, volunteer leadership, and consistent engagement with the Santa Clara University community.
Who's Eligible
- Nominees must be a living alumnus/a of the University or an alumni couple.
- Service to the Alumni Association and the University should be major determinants.
- Rotating Members of the Alumni Association Board of Directors and current members of the University Board of Trustees, Board of Regents, and Board of Fellows are not eligible.
- University employees are not eligible.
- The Louis I. Bannan, S.J. Award is not granted posthumously.
- Any exceptions to the "General Criteria" must be unanimously approved by the Louis I. Bannan, S.J. Award Selection Committee and the University President.
- Nomination submissions should be 500-800 words.

Who Decides Which Alumni Receive an Award?
Every year, a dedicated committee of alumni combs through the nominations and selects a recipient based on each award's criteria. This committee is made up of eight individuals, including:
- Alumni Association Past Presidents of the last three years
- Alumnus/a Trustee - Staggered three-year term, appointed by the BOD Ex-Officio, AVP, Alumni Relations
- Alumnus/a Regent - Staggered three-year term, appointed by the BOD Ex-Officio, AVP, Alumni Relations
- Alumnus/a Fellow - Staggered three-year term, appointed by the BOD Ex-Officio, AVP, Alumni Relations

- AVP, Alumni Relations
All recipients are approved by the President's Office.
How Are Recipients Recognized?
All recipients of the SCU Alumni Awards will be honored at The President's Dinner, an annual celebration that puts the accomplishments of these distinguished alumni front and center through short documentaries about their lives. Please check the alumni event calendar for updates.
