Measuring Dissolved Oxygen in Fresh Water and Deep Water Ponds (ENGR 110, Spring 2010)
Students: Matthew Blanco
Advisor: Maria Pantoja
The student developed a system for measuring and recording dissolved oxygen levels in the two ponds in the Nature Center. There are two ponds, one is shallow (3 feet depth) and open to the sun and the other is 13 feet deep and in the shade of trees. The customer wanted to know the levels of dissolved oxygen in each pond to be able to predict the organisms that might live in each of the two ponds. The student used a PVC Tee part as a means to install an oxygen sensor in a section of PVC. Placing the sensor in the middle of the PVC enabled monitoring oxygen levels in the water flowing through the PVC pipe.
