Irina Raicu, internet ethics program director at the Markkula Center for Applied Ethics at Santa Clara University, discusses the consequence of basic negligence on the part of Big Tech companies to address misinformation on hot-button political issues.

“Some major things that tech companies should probably have addressed long ago are now, suddenly, kind of emergencies,” she tells Fast Company.

“I do think that tech companies, and search engines, in particular—really, any companies that have a search function—have a responsibility to make sure that people are not misdirected to misinformation,” says internet ethicist Raicu.
