Assistant Arizona Attorney General who Blasted Election Officials Should Recuse Self From Investigation

Jennifer Wright, who leads the state's Election Integrity Unit, should recuse herself or be removed from overseeing an investigation she launched into voter problems in Maricopa County due to a series of problematic tweets Wright posted to social media via Twitter.

Wright's continued involvement creates a conflict of interest or, at the least, a perception of one, said John Pelissero, a senior scholar in government ethics at the Markkula Center for Applied Ethics at Santa Clara University.

"It presents the appearance that the AG's Office is holding up the certification of the election, or questioning it, because her candidates didn't win," he told The Arizona Republic. "The public will draw the conclusion that she is acting out of partisan interest."

"The AG should have her step aside and have someone else oversee the issues," Pelissero said. "The AG would be in position to act to protect the integrity of his office."
