One-on-one With Fired Alum Rock Union Superintendent
Recently-fired superintendent of the struggling Alum Rock Union Elementary School District, German Cerda, is speaking out about his termination. Cerda believes he was terminated for speaking out about questionable reimbursements for board members, including one board member receiving over 30,000 in reimbursements for coursework taken toward a doctorate degree.
“School boards are meant to serve the public. Not profit from the role. A tuition payment to a sitting member raises conflicts of interest questions. It challenges their duty to safeguard taxpayer money,” said Davina Hurt, Ethics Center's director of government ethics.
