These Lawmakers Probing FTX’s Collapse got Donations from Sam Bankman-Fried and Cronies

Federal records show that Sam Bankman-Fried and FTX associates made campaign donations to at least 11 members of the House Financial Services Committee prior to the 2022 midterm elections.

John P. Pelissero, a political scientist and senior scholar at Markkula Center for Applied Ethics at Santa Clara University, agrees that the donations should never have been accepted.

“Members of the House Financial Services Committee should have declined to accept campaign donations from any company or individuals associated with such that has or could have legislation considered at the committee that affects their businesses,” Pelissero reasoned.

The only “ethical path” for the committee members, he continued, is to return the money.
