Two Kaiser Researchers Suspended Following Internal Review
An internal audit by Kaiser Permanente's institutional review board has brought to light a study that was halted in 2022 due to ethical concerns regarding the consent and enrollment process. This clinical study's ethical breach may indicate larger problems within Kaiser Permanente that have yet to be addressed.
"Normally the institutional review board should have been involved, but as far as I could read, it was not, so this seemed as if they didn't want the IRB to be involved...I wouldn't expect any institution or research group to behave this way," says Dorothée Caminiti, director of bioethics at the Markkula Center for Applied Ethics.
