Naren Agrawal & Ram Bala Receive State Grant
Naren Agrawal, Benjamin and Mae Swig Professor of OMIS, and Ram Bala, associate professor of OMIS and Business Analytics, received a grant from the California Governor’s Office of Business and Economic Development (GO-Biz) and the Governor’s Office of Planning and Research (OPR) to support their research project titled "California Defense Diversification: Commercialization Pilot Program".
They will conduct research on prior commercialization programs in the U.S. and elsewhere in both public and private sectors to identify pitfalls and best practices. Using the information gathered, they will distill elements of best practices from published sources and adapt them to the context of defense suppliers seeking to diversify their product and service portfolio. This could involve building a database of pre-existing business cases as well as the creation of new case studies using primary research in the form of surveys, interviews and other forms of data collection.
This research will contribute to California’s efforts to help communities respond to changes in federal defense spending and augment regional defense diversification plans.
