Malika Singh, Internship at PwC

“Hello?” “Hi Malika, I hope you’re doing well! We would like to offer you an internship for next summer with PwC!”

“Hello?”

“Hi Malika, I hope you’re doing well! We would like to offer you an internship for next summer with PwC!”

Now let’s rewind about a year and a half. I came into college as a biology major in the College of Arts & Sciences. I loved AP biology and studying the material. As I progressed into the major, I loved the sciences but didn’t really see myself going into careers following it. Like any college student, I had an existential crisis. I questioned what I wanted to do with the rest of my life, who I wanted to be - all the works. After talking to my family, I decided to try to transfer to the business school, as they were involved in the industry and I had joined a professional business fraternity (Alpha Kappa Psi) a year prior.

Luckily enough, I was able to get in to the Leavey School of Business! However, I struggled to pick a major - I was new to business after all! After a quarter, I took my first accounting class. For the first time, all of the information clicked and I loved studying the material that most people hated. Within a week, I changed my major to Accounting and Information Systems and didn’t look back. Only about a week and a half after changing my major, I began the recruiting process for the Accounting industry. I realized I had found my passion just in time - within a month of changing my major, I had received multiple internship offers for the summer after my Junior year, thanks to the business school.

The Leavey School of Business has granted me opportunities that I never would have had otherwise. I have been able to network with world professionals to get an insight into the real professional world. I can’t wait to see what else is to come!
