What was your favorite class that you took? My favorite class was my Italian class because it taught me important skills for learning and speaking Italian in everyday settings. More importantly, the class provided me with more knowledge about Italian culture, heritage, regional differences, and history.
What did you like about your program/university? I really liked that my program was able to provide opportunities to engage in the local community. One opportunity I really enjoyed was volunteering at a local high school, helping students improve their English! Not only did this help me improve my Italian, but it also allowed me to get to know the students and teachers on a personal level!
What was your favorite place that you visited or favorite part about your city?
My favorite place that I visited was the Campania region in southern Italy. I spent a weekend exploring Napoli and Sorrento, which offered some of the best pizza of my life, amazing panoramic views of Mt. Vesuvius, opportunities to explore ancient ruins, and several areas to go swimming in the ocean!
What advice would you give to the students studying abroad next year?
I would say to keep an open mind and don’t come in with too many expectations! Some of my favorite memories and experiences were moments when I was walking around and talking to the locals. Keeping an open mind allows you to have a broader understanding of the world and gives you the chance to connect with the locals!
