"The Art of Engineering"

A poem by SCU's Associate Professor of Italian, Tonia Caterina Riviello.

"As a little girl, I walked in Saint Peter's Basilica, holding hands with my parents. From that moment, I have increasingly seen Saint Peter's not only as the center of Christianity, but also as the artistic center "per eccellenza." In the mid 80's--when I was hired as an Assistant Professor of Italian at Santa Clara University--the Engineering building was being constructed on campus. At the memorable inauguration of this beautiful building, I met the multicultural faculty of Engineering and was invited to paint my watercolors in the luminous new building. This poem is my homage to the School of Engineering on its 100 anniversary, to its Administration and its faculty "past" and "present" for honoring me with their friendship."
