FAFSA Reject Codes

Reject Code Reject Reason Student Resolution
1 You must provide asset information for you and your parent(s) and yourself. Please review items 37 through 39 and 85 through 90 and make the necessary corrections
2 You must provide your parent(s) income information and your income in items 81 through 84 and 89a through 89h Please provide your parent(s) taxed and untaxed income as well as your income (if applicable)
3 The amount you reported for your income taxes is equal to or greater than the amount you reported for your adjusted gross income Review items 36 and 37 and make the necessary corrections
4 You reported the date of your marital status to be after the date you completed your application Your marital status must be as of the date you completed the application. Please review and make the necessary corrections
5 You must provide your date of birth in item 9 Enter your date of birth or re-enter to confirm. 
6 SSA did not confirm the SSN reported for your parent in Item 57. Please review the SSN entered for parent 1 and correct any errors. If your parent does not have an SSN, enter all zero's in the field.
7 SSA did not confirm the SSN reported for your second parent in Item 61. Please review the SSN entered for parent 2 and correct any errors. If your parent does not have an SSN, enter all zero's in the field.
8 The SSA record indicates that the SSN that was provided belongs to a deceased person Please review the SSN entered and make the necessary corrections. If correct, please contact SSA at 1-800-772-1213
9 You must report a valid SSN, name, and DOB for your father or mother Correct the SSN, name, and/or DOB for mother and father to achieve a full match for at least one parent. If parents do not have an SSN, provide zero's or confirm by re-entering the zero's
10 You must provide answers for your parents' marital status and number of family members in items 55 and 69. You must provide answers for your marital status and number of family members in items 16 and 90. Review and correct the parents' marital status and the parents' number of family members. Also review and correct the student's marital status and the student's number of family members.
11 Review your marital status in Item 16. Review parents' marital status in Item 55,  Review and correct the marital status and/or income reported as necessary. If you parent's are not married, provide only the income for the parent who supports you. 
12 The amount you reported for your parents' income tax is equal to or greater than the amount you reported for your adjusted gross income Review items 81 and 82 and make the necessary corrections
13 We recently received an application with no name from this address. The applicant must provide a full name in items 1 and 2. Provide the student’s last name and/or first name or confirm a blank First Name or Last Name field if the student actually has only one name.
14 You either did not sign your FAFSA or FAFSA correction, or the date that you provided indicates that you completed your FAFSA prior to October 1, 2022, or later than the date the FAFSA was received.  A signature correction must be made on a printed SAR certification page and resubmitted to the FAFSA processor, or it can be corrected electronically.
15 Your parent did not sign your FAFSA or SAR corrections you submitted A signature is required. If your parent  is unable to sign please contact your school's financial aid office or high school counselor
16 We have not received the signature page from your FAFSA on the web application or correction/phone application A signature correction can be made electronically or on a printed SAR certification page
17 You did not indicate on your FAFSA that you are a U.S. citizen or eligible noncitizen Please select 1 if you are a U.S. citizen or 2 if you are an eligible noncitizen.
18 SSA did not confirm the SSN you reported on your FAFSA is correct If it's correct contact SSA t ofix the error in its records then re-enter the SSN and submit as a correction. If it is incorrect you may file a new FAFSA application with the correct SSN
19 We cannot process your FAFSA because of issues related to the Anti-Drug Abuse Act of 1988.

20 You reported that you will not file an income tax return, but the amount you reported for your income appears to be over the minimum amount required to file Please review items 29, 35, and 36 to make the necessary corrections
A or B Review your date of birth in Item 9 and either confirm the date you have reported by re-entering it or make the necessary correction. Review and correct or confirm (re-enter the same value) the date of birth.
C The amount you reported for your parents’ income tax appears to be over the allowable amount based on what you reported for their adjusted gross income. Review and correct or confirm (re-enter the same value) the parent’s taxes paid and adjusted gross income.
C The amount you reported for your income tax appears to be over the allowable amount based on what you reported for your adjusted gross income.  Review Items 33 and 34 and make the necessary corrections. Review and correct or confirm (re-enter the same value) the student’s taxes paid and adjusted gross income.
D The name you reported on your FAFSA does not match the name in the Social Security Administration’s (SSA) records for your Social Security Number (SSN).  Therefore, you must correct your SSN (Item 8) or name (Items 1 and 2) Review and correct or confirm (re-enter the same value) the student’s first and last name.
E Your first parent's name as reported does not match the name in the SSA record for their SSN Correct your parent's name on items 57-59. If it is correct, re-enter both first and last name to reaffirm that the name is correct
F Your second parent's name as reported does not match the name in the SSA record for their SSN Correct your second parent's name on items 61-63. If it is correct, re-enter both first and last name to reaffirm that the name is correct
G The amount you reported for your income tax appears to be over the allowable amount based on what you reported for your adjusted gross income Please review items 33 and 34 and make the necessary corrections
J You reported that your parent(s) did file or will file a 2021 income tax return but also reported that your father does not have an SSN Please review and make the necessary corrections
J + K You reported that your parent(s) did file or will file a 2021 income tax return but also reported that your parent(s) do not have an SSN Please review your answers for items 60, 64, and 79 and make the necessary corrections. To confirm parents don't have an SSN enter or re-enter all zero's
K You reported that your parent(s) did file or will file a 2020 income tax return but also reported that your mother does not have an SSN Enter SSNs for your parents or confirm that your parents do not have an SSN by entering or re-entering all zeroes.
N We recently received an application with no name from this address. The applicant must provide a full name in items 1 and 2. Review and correct or confirm (re-enter the same value) the student’s last name or first name.  A blank first or last name is valid only if the student actually has only one name.
R The DOB you reported does not match the DOB in the SSA's record for your SSN Review and correct or confirm (re-enter the same value) the student's DOB
S Father's DOB does not match SSA records.  Please correct your father's date of birth. If no correction is needed, re-enter the same value to reaffirm the DOB is correct.
S You must provide your DOB or date provided is invalid. Please review item 9 and enter your DOB
T Mother's DOB does not match SSA records. Please correct your mother's date of birth.  If no correction is needed, re-enter he same value to reaffirm the DOB is correct.
W Review the number of family members you have reported in Item 69 and item 90 and either confirm your answer by re-entering it or make the necessary correction. Review and correct or confirm (re-enter the same value) the parents’ number of family members.
