Alumna Maria Barros-Bailey : Recognized for Achievements and Volunteer Service at Spring Commencement

Alumna Maria Barros-Bailey ‘84 received the Distinguished Alumni Award from Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey.

Leavey School of Business marketing alumna Maria Barros-Bailey ‘84 received the Distinguished Alumni Achievement Award as a graduate of the Masters of Public Administration program at the Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey along with four others at their Spring Commencement.

Shortly after Maria Barros-Bailey graduated from Santa Clara University as a marketing major in 1984, she joined the Peace Corps as a business advisor in the Women in Development Program. She worked there until 1987 when she entered the MPA program at the Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey. Near the conclusion of her studies in Monterey, Barros-Bailey became the executive director of the Volunteer Center of Monterey County. In lue of her past achievements Barros-Bailey was recruited to become a rehabilitation counselor working with monolingual Portuguese or Spanish-speaking injured workers and delivered her services around the Monterey area in addition to the South Bay and occasionally Mexico. Maria Barros-Bailey’s passion became providing primary care and forensic services to people with disabilities and has been in private practice for over two decades.

“Many outstanding nominations were submitted representing alumni doing remarkable work in their respective fields and who show ongoing commitment to the Institute,” noted Middlebury Institute’s Director of Graduate Alumni Engagement Leah Gowron in a recent article.
