Not every case will involve millions of dollars or sexual infidelity. “Most often it’s the partner exhibiting the infidelity who is seeking to control the relationship by controlling the purse strings. Control can be about a lot of things, such as regular give and take issues in a relationship, but can also be about deception where financial infidelity is part of sexual infidelity,” says Hersh Shefrin, a financial behavior expert and the professor in the Department of Finance at Santa Clara University’s Leavey School of Business.
