Finance alumna Julie Cullivan ‘88, published an article challenging the way women in technology approach furthering their career. She first points out how traditionally women seek out mentors to guide them through their career and then argues how women should also find both male and female sponsors. According to Julie, sponsors are connections that vouch for you and help make other connections to advance your career.  

She also offers some advice to those looking to advance their career and grow their network of sponsors:

• Demonstrate your worth by taking on the most challenging assignments that you can handle.
• Never get too comfortable. Remember to challenge yourself and expand your skill set.
• Always deliver high-quality work and collaborate with others.
