Kirthi Kalyanam: Amazon and Whole Foods

LSB’s Kirthi Kalyanam recently spoke to various news outlets about Amazon’s acquisition of Whole Foods.

Kirthi Kalyanam, L.J. Skaggs Distinguished Professor, marketing department chair, and director of the Retail Management Institute, provided his insight about the impact Amazon’s acquisition of Whole Foods would have on Costco in Markets Insider and Bloomberg. He spoke about Amazon’s new brick and mortar store on KPIX and WPEC, and was featured on KGO-SF about Amazon’s ability to cut prices at Whole Foods. Furthermore, Kalyanam was quoted in Bloomberg and numerous other outlets speaking about the success of the partnership between Amazon and Whole Foods.

“This is very early evidence that this marriage made in heaven between Amazon and Whole Foods is working,” Kalyanam recently told Bloomberg. “Amazon has struggled with online grocery because shoppers didn’t always know what they were buying. Now Amazon has the seal of approval that Whole Foods’ brand provides. Consumers feel that they don’t need to touch and smell the produce because Whole Foods has already made sure it’s top quality.”
