Congratulations to Bill Holt '79 MSEE, recipient of the 2015 Robert N. Noyce Award for Longstanding Accomplishments on Behalf of Industry. Bill has "helped keep the semiconductor industry at the forefront of innovation."

Tom Mollard '50 passed away January 21. As part of the indomitable Class of '50 engineers who have met annually without fail since their graduation, Tom will be especially missed. A Mass was celebrated last week.

- Alexandria Shearer '13
Alexandria Shearer '13 received an NSF Fellowship to support her Ph.D. studies at UC San Diego. Soon she’ll take her research from the lab to the jungle, working with archeologists to help them better understand Mayan society. Read more.

Unyoung (Ashley) Kim (bioengineering) has been appointed as an Associate Editor of the IEEE Journal of Translational Engineering in Health and Medicine.

Guichun Li and Nam Ling (computer engineering), with researchers from Huawei/Hisilicon, had two U.S. patents granted and awarded: “Simplified Bilateral Intra Smoothing Filter” and “Multiple Predictor Set for Intra Coding with Intra Mode Prediction”.

Nam Ling (computer engineering) received the APSIPA (Asia Pacific Signal and Information Processing Association) Distinguished Lecturer Award at the APSIPA Conference Banquet in Hong Kong Dec. 18.
- Mark Weiner
Mark Weiner (engineering and business school adjunct lecturer), co-leads Santa Clara-based start-up Versa Networks, selected as the top vendor in Computer Reseller News' (CRN) Top 10 list and as a Top 10 Innovation Sandbox finalist at RSA 2016!
- Sarah Kate Wilson
Sarah Kate Wilson (electrical engineering) has received $11,609 in additional subaward funding from Memorial University of Newfoundland (funds originated from Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency) for her "OmOptics - Signal Processing for Optical OFDM" project.
- Sally Wood
Sally Wood (electrical engineering) will continue serving on the editorial board of the Proceedings of the IEEE, which is the most highly cited general-interest journal in electrical engineering and computer science.
- Cary Yang
Cary Yang (electrical engineering) has been granted Life Fellow status by IEEE. He was elected IEEE Fellow in 1999, served as IEEE Electron Devices Society President in 2000 and 2001, and was on the IEEE Board of Directors in 2002 and 2003.
