Request for Course Use

FOR FACULTY & STAFF: REQUEST FOR COURSE USE

We work with faculty and staff to have the Maker Lab available for course use. Trainings can be scheduled specifically for your class. All users must complete Basic Training in order to be granted access to the Maker Lab.

For course use, we typically cover Basic Training with all the students and allow them to sign up for additional training on their own. If course projects require the additional tools, we can also schedule the required training for the whole class.

  • Basic Training – 15 minutes – Covers safety and basic tools (general hand tools, power hand drill, hot wire cutter, injection molder, plastic bender, sewing machine, silhouette vinyl plotter, soldering iron, vacuum forming machine, photo booth, etc. See Tools & Equipment for full list.).
  • 3D Printer Training – 25 minutes – Covers safety and use of Prusa, Ultimaker, and UP 3D printers.
  • Laser Cutter Training – 20 minutes – Covers safety and use of Epilog Laser Cutters.

Students are allowed to use the Maker Lab only when an approved Maker Lab Supervisor is present. We request that Professors and/or TAs complete Maker Lab Supervisor Training so that they can hold Open Hours specifically for course use.

—Note for 3D Printing—
To help support the Maker Lab, if you are planning for your class to use the 3D Printer, you may need to provide funding for filament.
