Texas Resident Opens Her Home to Victims of Domestic Violence and Offers a Home-Based Preschool in a New Business Venture

Texas resident Jasmine Martin had a dream of starting a group home for victims of domestic violence. She understood that many women and single moms leaving dangerous living situations may feel like their world is coming to an end, and it can be difficult to know what to do or where to go. She realized victims need a safe, affordable, and supportive home for themselves and their families while they begin to rebuild their lives.

Walking about her house one day, Jasmine saw her empty bedrooms in a new light. She became inspired to help domestic abuse survivors by sharing her home, and she realized this could be a new business opportunity as well. With this idea Jasmine and her partner could pursue her dream of entrepreneurship while helping single moms and women create new dreams for themselves too. With this inspiration Dream Chasers was born!

How it Got Started: Jasmine began pursuing her dream of offering a safe home to domestic abuse survivors by taking courses specifically for creating group homes. She found there were some missing pieces. “I was learning, but not fully understanding,” Jasmine shares. Then she found MOBI, which provided the basic business education she was missing.

How MOBI Helped: “MOBI gave me clarity regarding the general way people talk about business and the terms most commonly used,” says Jasmine about the MOBI course. “MOBI educated me better and made it easy for me to understand and run my business.” Jasmine was able to combine her MOBI business education with the specific courses designed for entrepreneurs pursuing group home businesses. She had a better understanding of the requirements and steps to take to prepare and open her business.

By taking the MOBI Starting a Business course, Jasmine learned how to estimate and categorize her costs so that she could decide on her pricing. In evaluating her business idea, value proposition, and expenses, she understood that she could charge an affordable rent with all the bills included. She also knew offering a fully furnished home with appliances provided would be helpful for her clients. These assets added to her value proposition but didn’t require additional funding.

What’s Next: Jasmine opened the doors of Dream Chasers in September 2025. Her flyer reads: "We help women and children who have been through domestic violence and need a place to stay for safety. We help single moms who are struggling to get by and make it through life’s battles."

Dream Chasers Preschool
In January Jasmine expanded her business to offer a home-based preschool, a new offering she is very excited to continue to grow. She is hoping to move to a neighborhood location in the future.
