Olivia Shao: Unlock the Full Potential of Your Internship - The Power of Networking

Whether you're a student exploring the corporate world or a young professional embarking on your career journey, internships provide invaluable opportunities for growth and development. While the work itself is important, it is equally crucial to recognize the value of networking within  a company. Stepping into the corporate world as a Digital Business Marketing Intern at DocuSign, I quickly realized that my internship experience was not just about the tasks at hand. It was also an incredible opportunity to network within the company and build connections that would shape my career trajectory. By forging meaningful connections and seeking mentorship, I was able to make the most out of my internship experience and set the stage for success.

From Day 1, I made it a priority to build genuine relationships with colleagues across different teams at DocuSign. I seized every chance to connect and engage with others. By showing a genuine interest in their work and seeking their guidance, I was able to gain valuable insights and perspectives. These connections not only enriched my internship experience, but they also opened doors to new opportunities. Through networking, I was able to work on new projects with people from different parts of my team, collaborate on cross-functional initiatives, and find potential mentors who inevitably provided invaluable guidance along the way.

By actively seeking out opportunities to learn from professionals in various departments, I gained a deeper understanding of the DocuSignecosystem. I sat in during team meetings, joined lunchtime discussions, and attended happy hours with my team after work. Each interaction provided me with unique insights and allowed me to broaden my skill set. By embracing curiosity and a growth mindset, I was able to build strong relationships while also getting to understand the company more from people who have worked at DocuSign for several years.

After engaging in meaningful conversations, I made sure to send personalized thank-you notes to express my appreciation. Additionally, I connected with them on LinkedIn and periodically reached out to check in and seek their guidance. By nurturing these relationships, I cultivated a network that extends well beyond the duration of my internship. These connections have evolved into mentors, advocates, and potential collaborators, showcasing the true power of networking in establishing lasting bonds that transcend the confines of a single internship experience.

As you embark on your internship journey, remember that networking within the company is an essential element of success. Embrace the power of building relationships, seek out mentorship, and actively engage in learning opportunities. By making genuine connections and nurturing those relationships, you unlock the full potential of your internship experience, paving the way for a promising future. So, step out of your comfort zone, seize every chance to connect, and let networking propel you towards a successful career!
